FlowRACS, a Raman-activated flow cytometer, was successfully used on fast analysis and QC of probiotics. The technology and application have been featured on the cover of the journal iMetaOmics.

 

Raman flow cytometry is a fast, label-free, and nondisruptive cytometric technology suitable for probiotic analysis and QC. This novel method features:

- Label-free analysis: A labeling step is no longer required, eliminating its impact on cell viability and metabolic states.

- A quick workflow completed within 30 minutes: A single quick analysis produces total cell count, microbial composition, viable cell count, and metabolic activity.

- Single-cell resolution: Cell ID, viability/vitality measurement, and quantitative metabolic activity assessment are all carried out at cellular level, providing a high-resolution view of cellular states.
